Dr Harry is absolutely amazing, I can’t recommend him enough. I had my usual skin maintenance treatments yesterday, and for the first time I decided to try a lip booster. Harry was so informative, knowledgeable, and reassuring throughout, and he made me feel completely at ease. I was originally offered standard lip filler, but as I’m in my 60s I wanted something more subtle and natural-looking, the lip booster felt like the perfect choice. I left the clinic with only a little swelling (nothing too bad at all) and my lips already look healthier, more youthful, and beautifully natural. I’m genuinely thrilled with the result and can’t thank him enough. Five-star-plus treatment every time. His prices are very reasonable, and his manner with patients is kind, professional, and wonderful. I’m already looking forward to my next appointment, even if I have to wait a few months because the results last so well. Thank you Dr. Harry ❤️

Dr. Harry is incredibly knowledgeable and really takes his time to talk you through everything, answer any questions, and ensure you’re comfortable throughout the whole appointment. I never felt rushed, and he explained the treatment and expected results clearly, which made me feel really confident in the process. I’m so pleased with my results and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

Great experience for an ultrasound-guided filler dissolution treatment. Dr Harry was very patient, caring and professional. I really appreciated the thorough consultation and felt well looked after throughout the treatment. Very happy with the results!

I visited Dr Harry after having my lips done by a few, other practitioners and my experience was positively incomparable. Harry was extremely thorough with his questioning, support and actual practice, I felt reassured and at ease, alike did my Mum, at the hands of Harry. I had 0.6ml of lip filler and was extremely impressed that he reevaluated my lips afterwards, adding in the remaining filler into specific areas. I did not have 1 single bruise, despite coming up black and blue in the past, and my lips are the most symmetrical they have ever looked. 1 million percent the best investment I have made to my face and I would never recommend going to anybody else! I visited the Chiswick clinic and it was beautiful🫶🏼 thank you Harry

I went to Dr Harry Clinic after both a recommendation and doing a lot of research, as this was my first anti-wrinkle injection treatment and choosing someone I truly trusted was really important to me. From the moment I arrived, Dr. Harry immediately made me feel at ease. He was so lovely, professional, and took the time to explain everything in detail. Most importantly, he really listened to what I wanted - especially my preference for a very natural look. Two weeks later, I had my complimentary follow-up appointment and I was already so happy with the results. At the follow-up, Harry was an absolute perfectionist, carefully assessing everything to ensure it was as balanced and natural as possible, with a small top-up where needed. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations. If it’s your first time having treatment, or you’re looking for a new injector, I genuinely cannot recommend Dr Harry Clinic enough. One of the best decisions I’ve made.

Understanding Bell's Palsy

Bell’s palsy is a condition involving sudden weakness or paralysis of facial muscles on one side of the face, typically caused by inflammation of the facial nerve. This condition can significantly impact facial expressions, eating, speaking, and overall quality of life.

The condition usually develops rapidly over 24-48 hours and can affect people of any age, though it’s most common in adults between 20-40 years. Understanding the recovery process and how therapeutic interventions can support healing is essential for optimal outcomes.

Dr Harry’s expertise in Bell’s palsy treatment comes from his comprehensive medical background and his experience as a trainer in aesthetic medicine. This knowledge ensures that treatments support natural recovery whilst addressing functional and aesthetic concerns.

Bell’s Palsy Treatment Explained

01How the Facial Nerve Affects Movement

The facial nerve controls every muscle of expression, from smiling and blinking to subtle emotional cues. When disrupted, even temporarily, the effects can be profound. Bell’s palsy interrupts this control, and although most nerves regenerate, the process can sometimes lead to complications like:

  • Synkinesis (unwanted movements)

  • Muscle tightness or twitching

  • Persistent asymmetry

  • Overcompensation from the unaffected side

Dr Harry’s deep knowledge of facial nerve pathways enables precise treatment that supports natural regeneration while reducing the impact of complications. Timing is critical, and a tailored plan ensures treatment is delivered when it can offer the greatest benefit.

02A Personalised Treatment Approach

Each patient presents differently, some with ongoing tightness, others with involuntary movements or emotional frustration around facial asymmetry. Dr Harry’s process begins with a full consultation and recovery phase assessment.

Recovery Phase Assessment
This includes:

  • Mapping current muscle activity on both sides of the face

  • Identifying any signs of synkinesis or overactivity

  • Assessing smile symmetry, eyelid function, and dynamic movement

By understanding the recovery timeline and compensatory patterns, Dr Harry creates a treatment plan that supports muscle balance and appearance, without interfering with ongoing nerve healing.

03Strategic Botulinum Toxin Use

Botulinum toxin can play a powerful therapeutic role in Bell’s palsy recovery, but only when applied with medical precision. Depending on the individual’s presentation, treatment may involve:

  • Relaxing overactive muscles on the unaffected side to restore symmetry

  • Targeting specific areas of the affected side to relieve synkinesis

  • Calming unwanted tension without freezing natural expression

Dr Harry tailors every treatment to ensure subtle, harmonious outcomes. His method doesn’t “freeze” the face, instead, it restores a softer, more balanced appearance while preserving authentic expression.

04Addressing Synkinesis

Synkinesis is a common but frustrating outcome of nerve regeneration. It causes muscles to move involuntarily, for example, the eye may close when smiling, or the mouth may twitch when blinking. These movements can interfere with daily life and add emotional distress.

Dr Harry’s targeted approach:

  • Identifies specific synkinetic patterns through facial mapping

  • Uses low-dose, high-precision botulinum toxin to retrain muscle response

  • Reduces unwanted contractions while preserving key movements

Treatment is always gradual and conservative to avoid weakening essential expression. The goal is control, not paralysis.

05Functional and Aesthetic Benefits

Bell’s palsy therapy is about more than aesthetics. It can restore freedom in everyday actions and rebuild confidence in social interaction.

Functional Improvements:

  • Easier, more natural speaking and eating

  • Reduced facial fatigue from muscular imbalance

  • Improved control over blinking, smiling, and expressions

Aesthetic Enhancements:

  • Better alignment of eyebrows, mouth corners, and eye aperture

  • A softer, more symmetrical appearance at rest and in motion

  • Reduced appearance of facial tightness or asymmetry

Together, these improvements allow patients to reconnect with their expressions, and with themselves.

06Multidisciplinary Support

Many patients benefit from an integrated recovery plan. Dr Harry collaborates with:

  • Physiotherapists to support neuromuscular retraining

  • Speech therapists for facial articulation and oral function

  • Neurologists or GPs when additional diagnostics or medical support is needed

This collaborative care ensures that every aspect of your recovery, from movement to confidence, is supported by professionals who understand both the science and the human experience of healing.

07Timing and Maintenance

Timing is key. Some patients benefit from treatment early in the recovery journey, while others benefit later, once healing has stabilised but asymmetry or synkinesis remain.

  • Initial treatments are spaced conservatively to avoid overcorrection

  • Follow-ups are scheduled every 3 to 6 months based on muscle response

  • Adjustments are made gradually to support continued nerve recovery

Dr Harry’s care plans evolve with you, adapting as your movement, comfort, and appearance change over time.

Common questions

Bell’s Palsy Treatment FAQs

01When is the right time to consider botulinum toxin treatment after Bell’s palsy?

Treatment is usually considered after the acute phase, once spontaneous recovery has plateaued, typically 3 to 6 months post-onset. At this stage, if facial asymmetry, tightness, or synkinesis remains, Dr Harry can use targeted botulinum toxin to support functional balance. Early intervention during the wrong phase can interfere with healing, which is why Dr Harry performs a detailed assessment to ensure precise timing.

02Will this treatment weaken my facial muscles further?

No, not when administered correctly. The treatment is highly localised and carefully dosed to reduce excessive muscle activity (either on the overcompensating healthy side or in areas affected by synkinesis), without paralysing essential movements. Dr Harry’s advanced training in facial nerve mapping allows him to preserve your expressions while enhancing symmetry.

03What is synkinesis, and how does this treatment help?

Synkinesis is the involuntary movement of one facial area when trying to move another, for example, blinking when smiling. It occurs due to misdirected nerve regrowth. Dr Harry uses precision-targeted botulinum toxin injections to reduce the overactive signals causing these unwanted movements, helping restore natural facial control and improving both comfort and confidence.

04Will the results be permanent, or will I need repeat treatments?

Botulinum toxin treatment for Bell’s palsy is not permanent, results typically last 3 to 6 months. However, many patients find that regular sessions lead to progressive improvement in function and facial balance. Dr Harry will create a personalised treatment schedule based on your progress, needs, and rehabilitation goals.
